ENGLAND
Tottenham are losing sight of the top four heading into their away game at Fulham that completes the last round in the Premier League. With just one win in their last five games, Tottenham is in fifth place, six points behind fourth-place Manchester United. Fulham are enjoying an impressive return to the top flight and can overtake Spurs and Brighton for fifth place with a win at Craven Cottage. In Fulham’s last home game, the team beat Chelsea.
SPAIN
Valencia receives Almería looking to stop a two-game losing streak in the Spanish league. They have not won in the competition since a 3-0 victory against Real Betis before the World Cup break. That was Valencia’s only win in their last eight league games. Gennaro Gattuso’s team is only two points from the relegation zone. Almería is just behind Valencia in the standings, one point from the relegation zone. They have not won since before the World Cup, with two draws and one defeat after the break.
ITALY
Following their Italian Super Cup victory over AC Milan, Inter Milan host Empoli at the San Siro in Serie A with Romelu Lukaku likely as an option from the bench. The Nerazzurri moved up to third place after Juventus were penalized 15 points for false accounting. Bologna meets Cremonese, last place.
FRANCE
Record 14-time Coupe de France winner Paris Saint-Germain have included star forwards Kylian Mbappé and Neymar in their squad in the amateur squad Pays de Cassel for a place in the round of 16. PSG manager Christophe Galtier has rested World Cup winner Lionel Messi The Qatar-backed club was allowed to drop after playing an exhibition game in Saudi Arabia on Thursday.
