African-American comedian Dave Chappelle, born David Khari Webber Chappelle, visited Jubilee House to meet President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The renowned artist arrived in Ghana on Tuesday ahead of the highly anticipated Black Star Line Festival.

Dave Chappelle meets with other officials

In addition to the president, the comedian also met with director Akwasi Awua Ababio and deputy director, Dr. Nadia Adongo Musah, of Diaspora Affairs at the President’s Office.

“Year of Return” initiative attracting African-Americans to Ghana

In 2019, the Ghanaian government launched the “Year of Return” initiative to encourage African Americans and African Diasporas to return ‘home’ and connect with their roots and people. That year also marked the 400th anniversary of the first ship from Africa to reach the shores of the Americas, Virginia.

Chappelle, 49, joins a list of black A-list personalities who have visited Ghana over the Christmas season.

Constitution Day: Akufo-Addo urges Ghanaians to protect Ghana’s democracy (video)

In the meantime, yen.com.gh previously reported in a separate story that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo urged Ghanaians to stand up for Ghana’s democracy as the nation marks the 30th anniversary of the Fourth Republic on Saturday, January 7.

The President urged Ghanaians to live by the dictates of the national commitment to ensure that all citizens, regardless of their religion, belief or creed, live in conditions of freedom and democracy.
