Former head of the Presidential Task Force on Climate Finance Daniel Mminele
Former Absa chief executive Daniel Mminele, who recently resigned as head of the President’s Climate Finance Task Force, has been appointed Nedbank’s new chairman of the board.
Mminele will replace Nedbank’s current chairman, Mpho Makwana, who became Eskom’s chairman last year. In December, Nedbank announced that Makwana will retire as chairman in 2023.
In 2021, Mminele resigned as Absa’s chief executive after clashes with the board over how to implement the bank’s strategy. Later, Absa president Wendy Lucas-Bull said the Absa leadership team disagreed with Mminele on how to do things.
His appointment at Nedbank is effective May 1. Mminele, a former deputy governor of the SA Reserve Bank, had to step down as chairman of Alexforbes.
“I am honored by this appointment and look forward to joining the Nedbank Group as an independent non-executive director and chairman-designate,” Mminele said in a statement.
“I am looking forward to working with colleagues on the board, the management team, employees and our broader community of stakeholders as we deliver on strategic commitments and ambitions in line with Nedbank’s track record as a business-driven organization. a purpose”.
It was announced in early February that Mminele would not renew his contract as head of the President’s Climate Finance Task Force, which was formed to facilitate South Africa’s $8.5 billion climate finance deal with some of the world’s wealthiest countries.
