A suspected extremist attack on a church in eastern Congo has killed at least six people and injured more than a dozen, according to the country’s military.
A group linked to Islamic extremists is suspected of being responsible for a bomb that exploded at a Pentecostal church in the town of Kasindi, North Kivu province, military spokesman Anthony Mwalushayi told The Associated Press by phone.
A Kenyan national who was found at the scene without documents has been detained, Mwalushayi said.
Videos and photos of the attack seen by the AP showed the wounded being led out of the church surrounded by other screaming people.
The village of Kasindi is located on the border with Uganda and has been the target of several attacks by fighters from the Allied Democratic Forces, believed to be linked to the Islamic State group.
