Colorado police are charging a man with intentionally driving his pickup truck into the lobby of a police station Tuesday in an attempt to “be heard.”
A Grand Junction Police Department spokesperson said Nathan Chacon, 45, drove his 2007 Chevrolet Silverado into the police station lobby Wednesday afternoon around 12:30 p.m., adding that “miraculously” no one he was hurt.
An arrest affidavit states that “there was no questioning, stopping or slowing before the truck turned directly into the main concourse doors, sped up, and went through two sets of metal doors with bulletproof glass.”
At the time of the incident, eleven employees were working behind windowed walls that prevented the van from causing further damage to the building and its occupants.

The police officer who wrote the arrest affidavit said the van passed through several benches in the lobby that are used for citizens hoping to “report being a victim of crime or get help of any kind from the Police Department.”
“Fortunately, no one had been using the pews or was in the lobby at the time of the accident, which would be normal activity on a weekday around 12:30,” the affidavit reads.

Chacón told investigators that he thought several cars were “following” him after he left his home Wednesday morning, adding that he “became paranoid about these vehicles and started making erratic turns and taking side streets to avoid these vehicles.” vehicles”.
The man told investigators that he “chose to drive to the lobby” because he did not want to be killed, but did so “to be heard,” the affidavit says, adding that Chacón “knew it was nonsense.”

Chacon is being charged with Attempted First Degree Murder, Attempted First Degree Assault, Attempted Vehicular Manslaughter: Reckless Driving, Attempted Vehicular Assault, Criminal Mischief, and Reckless Endangerment.
According to the document, records show that “there are at least 90 service calls involving Nathan in recent years in which he reports strange occurrences that have been unfounded.”
“Some of these calls for service in the last few days leading up to this event hint at a pattern that Nathan was becoming frustrated with officers, as he was hanging up and insulting them over the phone,” the affidavit reads.

In all, police say damage to the apartment’s lobby, front doors and bulletproof window panes is estimated at more than $100,000 but less than $1,000,000.
Chacon is being held at the Mesa County Detention Center in Grand Junction, Colorado.
