Police in the Northwest had their hands full on Thursday.

They found themselves in the crosshairs of angry protesters who had taken to the streets of Lichtenburg.

Residents were upset by poor service delivery. They have had extended periods without water.

Videos show some residents throwing rocks at police vans.

“A planned operation was carried out whereby 10 suspects were arrested for public violence, and they will appear in court shortly,” police spokesman Captain Aafje Botma told News24.

Angry residents had set two cement trucks on fire, he said.
