A Chicago, Illinois grocery store clerk and a suspected shoplifter were killed after an attempted robbery was interrupted by a hidden luggage rack Friday night.
Police said the armed suspect entered the El Barakah supermarket on 73rd Street in the South Shore around 6:20 p.m., according to a report by Fox station WFLD in Chicago.
The gunman, later identified as 24-year-old Nicholas Williams, attempted to rob the store when a nearby man drew a gun and shot the suspect.
According to police, the witness who fired first has a valid concealed carry license.

The suspect returned fire, hitting the store clerk, identified as 63-year-old Ali Hassan.

Hassan was reportedly shot in the chest and back.
Hassan was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital, where he eventually died.
Williams was also shot in the altercation, but in the chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said they recovered three weapons from the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
