Nine fishermen are missing after a boat capsized off the southwestern coast of South Korea late Saturday, authorities said.
On Sunday, more than 30 coast guard vessels and at least eight military and coast guard aircraft were searching for the missing fishermen. Three crew members were rescued near a commercial ship after the accident on Saturday night.

Survivors said the ship’s engine room quickly filled with water before the 24-ton vessel capsized near Daebichi Island in Sinan maritime county, according to the coast guard.

Authorities planned to salvage the boat, but it was not known if the nine missing crew members were inside. The Ministry of Interior and Security said seven of the missing were South Korean citizens and the other two were foreigners.

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has called on officials to mobilize “all available resources” to broaden the search and provide support to the families of the missing fishermen, his office said.
