A man already convicted of killing a Tucson teenager now faces another murder trial, this one involving a 6-year-old girl.
Jury selection from a pool of nearly 100 potential jurors began Thursday in Pima County Superior Court and Christopher Clements’ trial is expected to begin Tuesday and last 18 days.
Clements, 41, faces felony charges of first-degree murder, kidnapping of a child under 15 and second-degree robbery.
Last September, Clements was convicted of the 2014 murder of 13-year-old Maribel Gonzalez. He was sentenced the following month to life in prison plus 17 years for kidnapping, to serve consecutive life in prison for first-degree murder.

A different jury will hear Clements’ trial related to the death of Isabel Celis.
Clements, a convicted sex offender with a lengthy criminal record, was arrested in 2018 and charged with 22 felony counts in the deaths of the two girls.
Celis disappeared from her parents’ home in Tucson in April 2012, while González disappeared while walking to a friend’s house in June 2014.
Authorities said Gonzalez’s body was found days after she went missing, while Celis’s remains were not recovered until 2017, after Clements led federal agents to the scene.
