Arizona border agents have seized more than 1.5 million fentanyl pills since last week, authorities said Monday.
The pills were discovered in eight loads as of Thursday at the Nogales port of entry, port director Michael Humphries tweeted.
They were found concealed in a variety of methods, including gas tanks, floors, doors, and vehicle panels.

“The pills included blue, multicolored, and rainbow,” Humphries wrote.
Border authorities have seen an increase in fentanyl seizures in recent months. In October, US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers seized more than half a million fentanyl pills in Nogales.
The rise of drugs as the main driver of the opioid crisis in the past two years it has dominated news coverage in large part because of how dangerous it is, potentially fatal even in small doses. According to the most recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, synthetic opioids like fentanyl accounted for 82.3% of opioid-related overdose deaths in 2020.

The drug is created primarily in Mexico using precursors from China, and is then transferred across the US land border.
