Addis Ababa, January 31, 2023. Africa CDC hosted a successful youth pre-conference on December 10-11, 2022, in Kigali, Rwanda, under the theme “Significant youth engagement to promote sustainable health security in Africa”. This was on the margins of the Second International Conference on Public Health in Africa (CPHIA 2022). Following strong engagement with youth during pre-conference and as part of implementation of recommendations, Africa CDC Acting Director announces appointment of first Youth Advisory Team for Health (YAT4H)as of February 1, 2023.

He Youth Health Advisory Team They will serve as representatives of African youth and help ensure that Africa CDC strategies and initiatives are inclusive and adequately address youth health issues. The YAT4H will support the Africa CDC to have meaningful and inclusive engagement with youth; institutionalize youth participation within the Africa CDC on public health issues in Africa; create a forum for intergenerational dialogue; and advocate for the incorporation of youth issues into decision-making within the Africa CDC.

The inaugural YAT4H will serve a non-renewable term of 12 months starting today February 1, 2023. The YAT4H will be composed of five (5) young Africans, aged between 18 and 35, representing the five (5) regions of the African Union.

The appointed members of the inaugural Africa CDC YAT4H are:

  1. Central Region: Franckline Sevidzem Wirsiy – Cameroon (M)
  2. Eastern Region: cardigan cherop – Ugandan (F)
  3. Northern region: Reem Yehia Kamel Elsayed – Egypt (F)
  4. southern region: margret soko – Malawi (F)
  5. Western region: eduardo agyemang – Ghanaian (M)

About the Africa CDC Youth Pre-Conference 2022

The Africa CDC convened a Youth Pre-Conference on December 10-11, 2022 in Kigali, Rwanda, ahead of its 2North Dakota Annual International Conference on Public Health in Africa (CPHIA) 2022. The goal is to drive a long-term strategic engagement between the Africa CDC and young people, to advance the full implementation of the New Public Health Order (NPHO) and, by therefore boosting health security in Africa and around the world. The Youth Pre-Conference 2022 was held in person with live streaming and participants were invited to join the CPHIA 2022 (December 13-15, 2022) to engage in conversation on the topic: Meaningful Engagement youth to promote sustainable health security in Africa.
