  • ANC delegates attending the national conference will decide the fate of President Cyril Ramaphosa regarding the robbery and alleged cover-up at his Limpopo farm.
  • So says ANC spokesman Pule Mabe after leaders decided to bring the integrity commission’s report on Phala Phala to the party’s elective conference.
  • The party’s national executive committee has also agreed that this is not the time to call for heads as Eskom fights to keep the country’s lights on.

The ANC’s National Executive Committee (NEC) has resolved to present the integrity commission’s report on Phala Phala at the party’s elective conference starting next week.

The party’s integrity commission deals with reports related to corruption, mismanagement and any conduct that brings the party into disrepute. He was meant to present the Phala Phala report before Friday’s NEC meeting in Nasrec.

However, ANC spokesman Pule Mabe told reporters that the party’s highest inter-conference decision-making body had decided, in its wisdom, to let delegates at its national conference decide the fate of President Cyril Ramaphosa.

“We can confirm to yourself that the NEC resolved that, and in accordance with the conference resolution, the integrity commission report would be included as part of the organizational report,” Mabe said.

The organizational report is debated in the ANC plenary during the national conference and usually generates a lot of controversy.

Mabe added that the NEC was not delegating its authority to delegates, but had “completely wrapped up its work” in that it had signed a pending report from the commission to be submitted as part of the organizational report.

He said that all the other reports, the political report and the financial reports have also been approved to be presented to the conference.

Outgoing Vice President David Mabuza will present the organizational report as Secretary General Ace Magashule has been suspended and his deputy Jessie Duarte has died.

In addition to the integrity commission reports, the special NEC also deliberated on the pressing issue of the energy crisis.

According to Mabe, Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan and Mineral Resources Minister Gwede Mantashe made presentations to the NEC on what the power company was doing to solve the energy crisis.

“The NEC have agreed that this is not the time to ask for heads to roll, but the time to make sure that the situation is resolved at Eskom.”

Mabe said the two ministers also pledged to provide regular updates to senior ANC officials, of which Mantashe is a part.

He added that senior officials would monitor problems at Eskom on a regular basis.
