More than 220 short films have been shortlisted for the AMAA-StarTimes Short Film Festival, which began on April 25, 2022.
Short films selected from over 500 entries in Africa and the African Diaspora are broadcast daily at 8:00 pm on the ST Nollywood Plus channel on StarTimes.
The short films will be shown from April 25 to May 25 and will win more than $10,000 in prizes for outstanding films, decided by the votes of viewers.
AMAA founder Peace Anyiam-Osigwe noted that the festival aims to celebrate talent on the continent. She said: “Africa day is May 25. Therefore, we will use this period to celebrate the incredible film talents of the continent.
“In addition to enjoying these short films, Nollywood fans can also vote for their best films. This is to ensure that fans are part of the process of encouraging diverse and emerging talent in Africa.
“First prize is $3,000 and a laptop; second prize is $2,000 and a phone; while the third prize is $1000 and a phone. We have also added a special prize of $1000 for the best documentary”.
For his part, StarTimes CEO Alex Jian stated that the collaboration with AMAA was very crucial and strategic with the growing demand for quality local content from Nigerian and African film professionals.
He added that the company was pleased to strengthen its partnership with AMAA to make a significant impact on the African film industry.
