Sunrisers Eastern Cape batsman Jordan Hermann
- Former Proteas star hitter AB de Villiers has been hugely impressed by Jordan Hermann’s hitting skills.
- Hermann, who plays for the Warriors, was selected by the Eastern Cape Sunrisers as a wild card.
- Hermann has already shown his appetite for big runs in domestic cricket.
Former Proteas star batsman AB de Villiers is not the type to be dazzled by the stars, but he is enthusiastic about the ability of young Sunrisers Eastern Cape batsman Jordan Hermann.
The 21-year-old Hoerskool Waterkloof product Hermann, already making a name for himself with the Warriors in domestic cricket, was picked as a wild card by the Sunrisers.
In his four hits for the Sunrisers, Hermann posted 4, 59, 3 and 43, but he also produced big scores nationally.

Last December, he made 150 for the Warriors, albeit in a losing effort, in a one-day Cup match against Paarl Rocks in Gqeberha.
He also made 432 runs at an average of 86.40 in the four-day series, with 187* of those runs coming in a seven-wicket win against Paarl Rocks at Paarl in November last year, where he anchored a chase of 370.
De Villiers, who excelled in the T20 cricket franchise without having the same performances in the same format internationally, said that of the youngsters in the SA20, it is Hermann who has impressed him the most.
“At the top of my head among the hitters is Jordan Hermann. To be honest, I didn’t even know about him before the tournament,” De Villiers said.
“I heard his name once, and then I saw him hit, and I was really impressed.”
De Villiers, who has not declared any coaching intention since officially announcing his retirement from all forms of the game in November 2021, said he was looking forward to working with the likes of Hermann.

De Villiers made his Test debut against England in 2004, and apart from sabbaticals and other absences, he was never dropped from the Test squad.
“I would love to work with these hitters. I really have a lot of passion about it. You have to evolve as a player”, said the former captain of Proteas.
“If you get stuck, you’ll end up not enjoying the game. I think there should be constant revisions.”
“I think that’s what kept me fresh. I always wanted to raise the bar every season until the end.”
