As a young child in a refugee settlement, Akilimali Burongu was often troubled with failure and despair about the future. Not just his future, but the future of the community around him.
However, his outlook on life radically changed when he got into the Leadership Academy of South Sudan (LASS). At LASS, Akilimali had a life-changing encounter with Jesus Christ. The turning point happened during discipleship training at LASS, where Akilimali’s call from God became a clear vision.
In his search for purpose, Akilimali realized that his calling was more than just sharing the gospel. He is called to raise disciples for Christ worldwide. Discipleship training at LASS and leaning into God’s calling for him ultimately led to the creation of the “Not Ashamed of the Gospel (NAOGM)” ministry. This ministry is his avenue of going all in on spreading Christ’s message.
Now, leading a team of 30 evangelists at NAOGM, Akilimali and his ministry have been on a transformative journey. They’ve conducted crusades, engaged in door-to-door evangelism, and helped establish two churches.
At NAOGM, they have weekly gatherings with the team to pray, share wisdom, testimonies, and study the Word. This ongoing process prepares them to fulfill their responsibility of spreading the good news of love, peace, unity, and reconciliation worldwide.
As the ministry grows, Akilimali envisions a broader impact, aiming to reach nations with the message of love and peace. They’ve started a YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/@NAOGM21) to broadcast teachings, reaching 120 subscribers with a goal of a larger global audience in the next 5 years.
According to Akilimali, the story is still unfolding—a tale shaped by divine encounters, purposeful discipleship, and an unwavering commitment to sharing the transformative power of the gospel worldwide. The journey from a personal revelation at LASS to the global outreach of “Not Ashamed of the Gospel” illustrates the profound impact that one life touched by Jesus’ message can have on communities and nations.
