CHARLOTTE, NC – North Carolina police have released a new photo of Madalina Cojocari, a missing 11-year-old girl who was reported missing to police nearly two months ago.

Madalina’s disappearance was not released to Cornelius Police until December 15, when her mother, Diana Cojocari, told school authorities and local police that she had not seen her daughter since she went to her room on the night of November 23 around 10 p.m. after she she and her husband, Christopher Palmiter, got into an argument, according to court documents.

“It has been 85 days since Madalina was last seen getting off her school bus on November 21, 2022. It has been 61 days since Cornelius Police learned on December 15, 2022 that Madalina was missing,” he said. the Cornelius Police Department (CPD). in a Tuesday post on social media. “‘[CPD], the SBI and the FBI continue to search for Madalina. Detectives are working tirelessly and following many leads to bring Madalina home.”

In December, authorities arrested and charged Diana Cojocari and Palmiter with failing to report a missing child to police after Madalina disappeared from her hometown in Cornelius, which is just north of Charlotte, around December 23. November 2022.

On November 24, Palmiter drove to his relatives’ home in Michigan “to retrieve some items” after an argument with his wife.

Cojocari entered her daughter’s room at around 11:30 a.m. and discovered that the 11-year-old was missing.

She waited three days, until November 26, when her husband returned home with Cornelius, to ask him if he knew where Madalina was. Palmiter apparently asked the same question of her, according to an affidavit.

When Cojocari was asked by detectives why she waited until December 15 to report her daughter missing, the mother said she was “concerned that it could start a ‘conflict’ between her” and Palmiter. Cojocari is originally from Moldova, where Madalina was born.

Cornelius authorities have asked the public for “firsthand witness information from anyone” who saw Cojocari’s light green Toyota Prius in the Madison County area between November 22 and December 15. Madison County is a rural area near Asheville located in the Appalachian Mountains. .

Madalina’s family wrote a handwritten note expressing concern for the missing 11-year-old girl, which CPD shared with the public on December 22.

“Madalina is a beautiful, intelligent, kind and loving 11-year-old girl with a great future,” the family wrote. “We are desperate to find her right now, she needs all our help.”

Authorities ask anyone with information on Madalina’s whereabouts to contact CPD at 704-892-7773.
