The acting executive director of the office’s investigative branch, Vusumuzi Dlamini, told the African Transformation Movement (ATM) leader, Vuyolwethu Zungula, in a letter on January 20. ATM filed a complaint with the Public Defender’s Office.

In the letter, Dlamini gave Zungula an update on the status of the investigation into allegations that Ramaphosa breached the Code of Executive Ethics after the theft of dollars that were hidden at his game farm, Phala Phala, in Waterberg, Limpopo, on February 9, 2020.

In the letter, Dlamini said: “Please kindly inform you that the investigation on this matter has been completed. An interim report has already been drawn up by the investigation team.”

According to the communication, the interim report will go through internal review structures “for quality assurance purposes.”

Dlamini added:

Upon completion of the quality control process, the interim report will be released to the relevant parties, in accordance with the Rules Relating to Public Protector Investigations and Related Matters, 2018, as promulgated under the Section 7(11) of the Public Protector. Law, to allow them to comment on anticipated findings before the report is final.

He also indicated that any new developments or progress would be communicated to Zungula.

Zungula appreciated the update, but noted that the investigation was taking a long time to progress.
