A manhunt is underway for a man charged in connection with a 2020 cash van robbery in Kranskop, KwaZulu-Natal, in which a security guard was shot dead.

Senzo Jeffrey Magwanyana, charged with murder and aggravated robbery, is alleged to have never appeared in court again after his release on bail.

According to Hawks spokesman Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo, Magwanyana, 21, went on the run in May after changing his legal representation.

The case had been transferred to the KwaZulu-Natal High Court in Pietermaritzburg.

Giving details of the allegations, Mhlongo said that G4S security guards were delivering cash in an armored vehicle to a gas station in Kranskop on February 14, 2020. When one of the guards got out of the vehicle, the men armed men approached him, demanded money and shot him.

“[The gunmen] fled the scene in his getaway vehicle with an undisclosed amount of cash, later recovered after a shootout with police,” Mhlongo added.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Magwanyana.
