Transportation Security Administration officers at a Texas airport found an undeclared 84mm handgun in checked luggage Monday, according to a tweet from the agency.
“We don’t see that caliber of a weapon very often, thank God,” Patricia Mancha, a TSA spokeswoman, told San Antonio’s KENS 5 television station. She added that the case was turned over to the San Antonio Police Department.
The owner of the luggage was located, identified and escorted to an office, an SAPD spokesperson told Fox News Digital.
The owner advised that the item is a demilitarized Carl-Gustaf M4 84mm recoilless rifle that would be used as a display/demo item at the SHOT show currently taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The owner identified the steps taken to “demilitarize” the prop and submitted company documents to that effect.
TSA Explosives The specialist also confirmed that the item was no longer usable; however, an item declared by a TSA screener would not be allowed on board the aircraft.
The unidentified party cooperated with police and a family member recovered the accessory. The man rebooked his departure flight.

At this time, there are no pending charges in the case, but the incident at San Antonio International Airport is being used to remind travelers how to transport firearms and ammunition.
Firearms owners may transport unloaded firearms in a locked rigid container as checked baggage only, according to the TSA website. They must declare the firearm and/or ammunition to the airline when checking their bag at the ticket counter. The container must fully protect the firearm from being accessed. Closed boxes that can be easily opened are not allowed.
