Two people on board the plane died.
Two people died after a small plane crashed south of Johannesburg on Sunday morning, according to the Air Rescue Coordination Center (ARCC).
An earlier report from Emer-G-Med paramedics indicated that three people died.
“Initial reports received from ground crews were three. It appears to be a lack of communication between services on scene,” Emer-G-Med paramedics spokesman Kyle van Reenen told News24.
According to ARCC chief Gregory Critchley, both people on board were killed in the crash.
“It has been established that there were two people on board and unfortunately they were fatally injured,” Critchley said.
South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) spokeswoman Sisa Majola added that the aircraft had departed from Grand Central Airport in Gauteng province on a training flight with the intention of landing back at the same airport.
“On board the aircraft were two occupants, who suffered fatal injuries. The aircraft itself sustained substantial damage,” Majola added.
SACAA has reported the incident to the Accident and Incident Investigation Division.
Majola said that a preliminary report will be issued 30 days from the day of this accident.
