A trio of sisters from El Salvador were rescued by Mexican authorities after being abandoned at the border.
The three girls, ages one, six and nine, were discovered after the Mexican National Guard issued an alert on Wednesday.

The girls were found on Isla del Mudo by officials from the National Institute of Migration, who quickly took them to a safe place.
Isla del Mudo is a small island in the Rio Grande, which has strong currents that have claimed the lives of many migrants seeking to cross the US border illegally from Mexico.

Video of the rescue was captured, showing the nine-year-old carrying her little sister and helping her six-year-old brother into the boat.
Unaccompanied children have become painfully common at the US-Mexico border, where they are often left alone after being separated from their parents or abandoned by human smugglers.

The three rescued girls are currently in the care of the System for the Integral Development of the Family of Mexico.
