After 15 successful generations, with the first arriving as far back as 1955, Toyota has now produced the 16th generation of the Toyota Crown, making it one of the manufacturer’s oldest models. After a series of advances, Toyota is ready to introduce the Crossover Hybrid to the South African market sooner than we think.

The 16th generation Toyota Crown comes in 4 different body styles namely Crossover Type, Sport Type, Estate Type and Sedan Type and all will be sold in 40 different countries and regions including South Africa. According to Toyota, the Sports Type “offers a sporty driving experience,” the Sedan Type “meets the needs of drivers,” and the Estate Type is “a functional SUV with ample driving space.”

South Africa could get the crossover variant, powered by an “E-Four” parallel hybrid powertrain, making it Toyota’s fifth hybrid model to be sold domestically. Joining the Corolla Sedan, Corolla Cross, Toyota Prius and RAV4, forming part of the subsidiary’s ongoing rollout of new energy vehicles in the local market.

The all-new 2023 Toyota Crown brings bold styling to the top of Toyota’s sedan lineup. With massive wheels, a flowing silhouette, unique paint options and sculpted body lines that create a fresh look that makes it completely one of a kind. Toyota Crown’s aura breaks with the conventions of the typical sedan with a side profile that flows into a wide rear. Dynamic body styling is amplified by sweeping, rounded character lines that give it a striking, launch-ready appearance.

Inside, its spacious cabin has a premium feel that offers unique color combinations and available leather seats. And a full digital display, piano key controls, vertical wireless charging port and the new Toyota Audio Multimedia system with available 11-speaker JBL Premium Audio System Package in Technology and Entertainment.

Taken together, the Crown package is a combination of innovative style, performance and functionality. The Crossover is equipped with a hybrid system and a newly developed bipolar nickel-hydrogen battery, which Toyota says will achieve “class-leading fuel economy and quiet operation.” Toyota confirmed that more information about the Toyota Crown crossover and the rest of the Crown lineup will be revealed at the South African State of the Motor Industry event on January 26, 2023.
