Stage 6 load shedding ALL DAY until further notice
Eskom announced that stage load shedding would be implemented continuously until further notice starting at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 11.

Eskom scaled the cargo slide to Stage 6 late on Tuesday. Stage 4 load shedding was intended to be in place between 05:00 and 16:00 until further notice.
The power provider said Wednesday that severe capacity constraints mean Stage 6 power cuts need to be in place for longer.

Prepare for confirmation of massive electricity surge THIS WEEK
Power regulator nersa is set to announce how much electric power company Eskom can raise electricity prices later in 2023 after meeting in Wednesday, January 12, 2023.

According to BusinessTech, the announcement follows several delays by Nersa, which was supposed to make its final decision on Eskom’s request to raise prices in November 2022.
Eskom’s proposal called for a 32% rate increase in 2023, which, when added to court-ordered arrears, could cause electricity prices to rise by more than 38% around mid year.

The 106 countries that South African passport holders can visit without a visa
The last Henley & Partners Passport Index by 2023 shows the 106 countries South Africans can travel to without requiring a visa.

The included index 199 passports and 227 travel destinations, ranking them in terms of travel power.
Each passport is scored on the total number of destinations that the holder can access without a visa.

Assassinations and threats to the personnel of the University of Fort Hare
The Minister for Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Blade Nzimande, will visit the University of Fort Hare on Wednesday 11 January, following a pattern of killings and threats against university staff.
The most recent assassination was that of the Vice Chancellor’s Executive Protection Officer, Mboneli Vesele.
He was murdered at the university.
Nzimande will consult with a variety of stakeholders, including the University Council, the Executive Directorate, the Unions and the Council of Student Representatives.

A man was caught on camera stealing a traffic sign in broad daylight. The video has gone viral on social media.
In the video, you can see a man standing at a traffic sign – a Yield to All sign. Watch the vehicles passing by him before stopping closer to the sign.
The man is then seen removing the sign within minutes and speeding away with his sign. It is still unclear where this incident occurred and when.
