In a separate incident, Gauteng police have launched a search for a group of four men who shot dead an off-duty police officer at his home on December 29, 2022.
Petty Officer Anton Seeber, a detective attached to the Linden Police Station, was asleep when unknown individuals entered his home demanding his service pistol. They shot and killed him and stole his service pistol and his personal belongings.
The police are requesting the cooperation of the communities in the area to present information that will help the police to apprehend those responsible for the murder.
National Commissioner Fannie Masemola said SAPS management was concerned about continued attacks (and killings) on police officers.
“We are constantly implementing our police safety strategy and plan to ensure the safety of members on and off duty.
“Communities should also come together and play an active role in reporting or sharing information about known criminals in their communities. Our condolences go out to the families, friends and colleagues of our members, and a speedy recovery to the injured member.” he said.
