Determined park rangers rescued a baby elephant trapped in a pool in Kruger National Park, reuniting the calf with its mother.
The rescue operation lasted nearly three hours on Tuesday and the calf is believed to be a few weeks old.
Kruger National Park spokesman Ike Phaahla confirmed that the incident occurred on Tuesday in the Letaba section of the park.

While the details of what might have led the baby elephant into the pool remain unclear, Phaahla said the section ranger was notified of the incident, who immediately began organizing the calf’s rescue.
“A helicopter carrying a veterinary doctor was dispatched to the area. The elephant was then calmed down so the rescue team could work on the mission.”
