Local and international holiday travelers were stranded at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg due to fuel supply issues.
Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) said on Wednesday morning that the airport was “experiencing challenges with the supply of fuel from the storage facility to the main hydrant system.”
In a statement, ACSA said that this affected the refueling of the aircraft.

“OR Tambo used fuel service company [a] manual system through fuel tankers for jet fuel. Technicians are on site and have resolved the issue. They are constantly monitoring the situation.”
ACSA said the airport had enough fuel.
Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula tweeted that there was no fuel shortage.
I was in contact with ACSA management and they assured me that there is no shortage of fuel at the OR Tambo airport, but there was a technical storage problem that was resolved. Management apologizes for any inconvenience this may have caused; flights will return to their normal schedule.

ACSA confirmed delays with national and international departures.
“Management apologizes for any inconvenience this may have caused; flights will return to their normal schedule,” it said.
Fuel shortage at OR Tambo International Airport. This country is a joke, an international airport has no fuel.
