Liverpool have outpaced a host of rivals to secure a move for World Cup star Cody Gakpo.

The young Dutchman was one of the standout players in Qatar, scoring three goals, and now his club PSV have announced they have reached a deal with the Reds for the sought-after 23-year-old.

Gakpo has scored nine times and assisted a further 12 goals in just 14 Eredivisie games this season, the most goal involvement by any player in Europe.

Manchester United were heavily linked with Gakpo for months, while Real Madrid were also very interested.

The fee is reported to be around £37m and provides a much-needed boost to a Liverpool side plagued by injuries to their forward line, including Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota.

PSV announced that Gakpo will now travel to England to complete a medical before the transfer is finalized when the window opens on January 1.
