Two people were killed and four others injured after a gunman opened fire in Paris.
A 69-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the shooting near a Kurdish cultural center, the prosecutor’s department in the French capital said.
The motive for the shooting was not immediately clear.
“There has been an attack with weapons. Thanks to the security forces for their quick action,” Emmanuel Gregoire, deputy mayor, tweeted.
“Thoughts for the victims and those who witnessed this drama”.
There is no further information on the severity of the victims’ injuries.
Paris police said they were dealing with an incident on Rue d’Enghien before urging the public to avoid the area, and officers cordoned off the area in the French capital’s 10th arrondissement.
Counterterrorism prosecutors said they are investigating the shooting but have not indicated any sign of a terrorist motive.
A witness told the French news agency AFP that seven or eight shots had been fired, causing chaos in the street.
