A Greek politician was caught inadvertently stripping on camera in front of a parliamentary committee while his fellow parliamentarian held a video conference.
Kleon Grigoriadis removed his jacket and then his shirt behind his fellow party member, apparently oblivious to broadcasting to a larger audience.
Maria Apatzidi was addressing the public administration committee on proposed police legislation from the offices of the left-wing MeRA25 party in the Greek parliament when Grigoriadis suddenly appeared on the screen.
Not noticing the camera, he began to remove his clothes.
Ms. Apatzidi tried to warn him, but he was too focused on the task at hand to not notice.
When she realized he was topless, she took direct action and put her hand over the camera, much to the bewilderment of the watching committee members.
However, Grigoriadis, who is an actor by profession, did not see the funny side of his bare-chested exposure and, speaking afterwards, said: “When you work all day, you change clothes in the office.”
“Because yes, some deputies work instead of stealing public money.”
He criticized the media for rushing to show the “unfortunate incident” but did not pay the same attention to more serious issues.
His comments were echoed by Ms Apatzidi when asked to comment.
She wrote on social media: “When MeRA25 messes with the oligarchy and gets sued, their MPs aren’t invited anywhere.
“Now a simple event that can happen to anyone is the reason to be invited.
“Sorry, but we’re not going to play the media game.”
When she later complained in an interview that MeRA25 MPs were not invited on air to talk about serious issues like the energy crisis or the environment, the presenter told her that she was “not here to promote party positions”.
In response, Ms. Apatzidi said “have a nice day” and hung up the phone.
