Dozens of law enforcement officers descended on Thurman, Iowa, early Tuesday to dig up dirt for the second time after a woman claimed her father was a prolific serial killer who murdered up to 70 women and ordered her sons to help move them. the bodies, according to reports.
People familiar with the investigation told Newsweek that 15 vehicles from the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the FBI arrived in the area and blocked it off by mid-morning. They had a piece of heavy equipment with them, the report says.
Authorities planned to drill a well site and excavate to test for a possible shallow grave along the Morel mushroom trails on the land where Donald Dean Studey and his family lived.
Studey’s daughter, Lucy Studey McKiddy, previously told investigators about her father’s alleged history “for years,” including as far back as 2007, prompting them to excavate a portion of the property, WHO-13 reported.

The Des Moines Register reported on some of McKiddy’s conflicting claims surrounding his father.
“In addition to the women, mostly considered bystanders and what Donald Studey called ‘bar slushies’ or prostitutes, his daughter believes the men are buried in the pit and on property that spans more than 400 acres in the area. Green Hollow about 40 miles from Omaha,” Newsweek states.

“I’ve talked to the FBI several times in the last few decades. Why didn’t they do something then, when I was alive?” Lucy Studey told the publication. “I hope the authorities dig up the bodies, identify the people, give their families closure and the victims a proper burial.”
