Monrovia – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., has relieved Mr. Nesco Aleo Wolo of his duties as Assistant Director for Operations at the National Security Agency (NSA), effective immediately.

An Executive Mansion release cited “administrative reasons” for the decision, describing it as part of ongoing efforts to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of Liberia’s national security apparatus.
President Boakai reaffirmed his commitment to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and accountability across all sectors of government, particularly within the nation’s security institutions.
\“The President has extended his appreciation to Mr. Wolo for services rendered to the Republic and wished him well in his future endeavors,” stated the release, signed by Presidential Press Secretary Kula Bonah Nyei Fofana.
While the release did not disclose specific reasons for Mr. Wolo’s dismissal, it follows a directive from the NSA instructing him to return all agency property after his unauthorized participation in the funeral of the late Senator Prince Y. Johnson.
In an official communication dated January 20, 2025, the NSA accused Wolo of violating agency rules by delivering a tribute on behalf of the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR) during the funeral. The letter, signed by Deputy Director for Administration Hon. Patrick P. Doe, outlined the items to be returned, including a vehicle, badge and identification card, communication headset, and weapon.
The NSA also requested Wolo to submit a written explanation of his actions to the Office of the Director, emphasizing the need for prompt compliance.
This development follows the high-profile funeral of Senator Prince Y. Johnson, a controversial figure in Liberian politics and former leader of the Independent National Patriotic Front of Liberia. Held in Nimba County, the event drew significant attention and was attended by prominent political figures and organizations.
