The illegitimate removal of the speaker of the 55th National Legislature, Chairman, Cllr. Jonathan Fonati Koffa is not in line with our nation’s (LIBERIA) Constitution. Despite what the constitution stipulates regarding the procedure of how any speaker can be replaced or impeached by the majority in a section of the House of Representatives legally. A vote of forty-nine must be certificated as stated by Article 43 of the constitution of Liberia’s Governing Law, the Constitution.

By Dr. Max O. Vargbelee, contributing writter

The Supreme Court of Liberia clearly made a decision to allow Cllr. Jonathan Fonati Koffa to be the legitimate speaker of the House of Representative of Liberia due to constitutional election among his peers. To impeach him, cannot be imposed by the Executive Branch of the Government of Liberia or the president of Liberia (Hon. Joseph Nyumah Boakai). The ruling of the Supreme Court of Liberia must be recognized as the final chapter about this topic/episode without interfering with any government official.

During the procedural removal of the speaker of the House of Representatives, the constitution of the Government of Liberia mandates that a quorum must be presented and a presiding officer chair the session. The current presiding officer is the chairman: Cllr. Jonathan Fonati Koffa. Finally, during the absence of the speaker, the deputy speaker legally assumed the role of the speaker. Why is it so difficult to understand this portion of the constitution of the Republic of Liberia?

The majority group of the legislators did not meet the requirement of the laws accordingly. Therefore, their actions about impeaching the Chairman (Cllr. Jonathan Fonati Koffa) violated the constitution of Liberia execution properly.

The citizens of Liberia must be apprehensive about how our current government of Liberia and the Unity Party led Government is being resistant to understanding and interpretation of the constitution of Liberia, leaving ambiguous concern in the mind of the citizens of Liberia.
