In his quest to address agricultural challenges and champion sustainable farming practices in Liberia, the Minister of Agriculture Dr. J. Alexander Nuetah, has embarked on a nationwide tour.

Minister Nuetah stated the mission’s aim is to gather “firsthand information” from farmers across the country on their needs and challenges to inform short-term technical and policy interventions, future policy decisions and identify their potentials within the various value chains.

The Agriculture Minister and team, accompanied by FAO Country Representative to Liberia, Bintia Stephen Tchicaya, visited several farms and interacted with local farmers from cooperative groups and inspected rice installation plants and mechanization hubs under construction in Foya and Voinjama Districts.

Dr. Nuetah announced a series of critical initiatives by the ministry to support farmers, including improved farming techniques, provision of improved varieties of seed and financial assistance for smallholder farmers as well as the establishment of mechanization hubs around the country to strengthen farmers’ efforts in increasing production.

The Agriculture Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to improving the agricultural sector’s productivity and competitiveness while promoting food security and rural development.

As part of the tour, Dr. Nuetah will also visit Nimba, Bong, and Margibi counties to meet with a wide range of stakeholders in Liberia’s agricultural sector.

These interactions are expected to provide valuable insights, given the country’s agricultural sector’s diverse challenges, and generate meaningful potential solutions.
