MONROVIA — The confirmation hearing of the Foreign Affairs Minister-designate was unusually postponed due to the overcrowding of the Chambers of the Liberian Senate.
Madam Nyanti was appointed by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to serve in the position.
But her confirmation hearing which was previously scheduled for 2:00PM did not commence in time due to the influx of former and current ministers, diplomats and others in the Chambers of the Liberian Senate.
At around 2:45PM, Madam Nyanti, wearing a yellow gown, entered in the Chambers of the Senate, at the time several Senators, including Edwin Melvin Snowe of Bomi County, were expressing concern why their assigned seats were already occupied by some of those who came to witness the hearing.
Many Senators were left without Senate as the Sergeants At Arms and other administrative staff of the Senate were seen hauling chairs into the Chambers and requesting journalists and others to vacate seats reserved for them in the gallery to be occupied by former and current diplomats, ambassadors and friends of the Minister-designate.
The unusual situation prompted the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs Senator Abraham Darius Dillon of Montserrado County to postpone the hearing to the dismay of many abruptly.
There are reports that the abrupt postponement of the hearing is intended to delay the confirmation of Madam Nyanti amid reports of questionable academic credentials.
However, FrontPage Africa has reportedly gathered that the Senate is under pressure from some members of the diplomatic mission to conduct the hearing of Madam Nyanti.
It remains unclear whether or not the confirmation hearing of Madam Nyanti would be rescheduled any time soon as Senators have already started holding consultations to make a determination on the matter.
