The student government at Pennsylvania State University has voted to pay transgender students to legally change their names.

The Penn State University Park Undergraduate Association voted Wednesday night to unanimously approve the legislation, which provides financial support to transgender students seeking to change their legal name, according to the Collegian student newspaper.

Under the legislation, it aims to provide “support to the transgender community” and also bolster efforts to “create a safe and inclusive environment for transgender students at university.”

The legislation states that those attempting to change their name for reasons unrelated to a divorce are generally required to pay between $150 and $250.

“[T]This could mean that a transgender student cannot change their name to better update their identity,” the bill states.

$3,000 will be allocated for name change vouchers, according to the outlet.
