A winter storm warning was in effect through Wednesday night for much of northern Arizona and New Mexico, and the National Weather Service forecast extremely cold conditions.
Stretches of interstate and state highways in northern Arizona were closed Wednesday, along with all schools in the Flagstaff Unified district, after about a foot of snow fell overnight.
The weather service said cold temperatures were expected during the day with wind chills overnight that dropped to minus 10 degrees through Friday across northern and eastern Arizona.

A severe weather forecast will affect parts of Arizona, New Mexico and Nevada with severely cold conditions. A winter storm warning was in effect through Wednesday night.

In New Mexico, rain showers, blizzards, potentially damaging winds, and drastically cooler temperatures were expected Wednesday.
Forecasters said near-blizzard conditions were possible in the northeastern part of the state before the storm system moved out.
For Nevada, the Weather Service in Reno warned of “downright dangerous (conditions) in exposed areas of the high Sierra” Wednesday with wind chills of -20 to -30 degrees Fahrenheit.
