A Lebanese professor at George Washington University in Washington, DC, accused the school of collusion with a pro-Israel group that filed a complaint against her for alleged anti-Semitism.
StandWithUs, a nonprofit organization that describes itself as “a nonprofit, nonpartisan international educational organization from Israel,” filed a Title VI civil rights complaint against Lara Sheehi last month alleging discrimination against Jewish students for not accepting their definitions of anti-Semitism, according to The Guardian.
The organization’s complaint alleged that GWU failed to adequately investigate allegations against Sheehi, an assistant professor of clinical psychology, who allegedly engaged in hate speech toward Israel and Zionism.
StandWithUs also alleged that Sheehi dismissed Jewish students’ interpretation of anti-Semitism during diversity conferences and adopted definitions provided by black and other minority students regarding racism, according to the complaint filed with the US Department of Education.

“In a class designed to educate future therapists about different identities and sensitize students to the biases experienced by those identities, Dr. Sheehi singled out Jewish students and deprived only them of an opportunity that gave all other students: define their own identity and what it means to experience discrimination based on that identity,” the complaint says.
The complaint also cited tweets in which Sheehi reportedly called for the destruction of Zionism, called the Israeli army “genocidal f–ks” and alleged cruelty on the part of Israelis.
Sheehi defended herself in a Counterpunch post that criticized StandWithUs for allegedly attacking her for being an Arab woman.

“One need only look at their stated mission to see that they are a shameless group of fringe political activists pursuing a pro-Israel right-wing agenda,” he wrote.
“Irrefutable, objective facts do not support StandWithUs’ misleading claims that I target my Jewish and Israeli students,” Sheehi also wrote. “They do not endorse the dangerous and unethical accusations that I am anti-Semitic and vindictive. What the facts, with stunning clarity, do support is that, like others before me, StandWithUs exploited the political beliefs of students and attacked me because I am an Arab woman. who is involved in scholarship and activism for Palestine and the Palestinians.”
Sheehi also asserted that GWU “has now colluded with StandWithUs’ misrepresentation of my classroom by remaining silent on a number of key issues of which they are acutely aware and for which they have supporting documentation that could have been used to publicly dispel these accusations”.
