A Georgia motorist who was “clearly impatient and upset” accidentally shot himself during a road rage incident Thursday, authorities said.
The Paulding County Sheriff’s Office said the shooting happened around 7:45 p.m. in the 8000 block of Buchanan Drive in Dallas. At that time, a truck carrying timber had caused a traffic jam on the highway.
Two men in reflective vests were outside directing traffic so the truck could make its delivery.

“The suspect/assailant, who was clearly impatient and upset by the delay, got out of his vehicle and threatened the men directing traffic by pointing his weapon at them,” the sheriff’s office said.
As he was returning to his vehicle, he accidentally shot himself in the hand while reholstering his pistol, police said. She told witnesses to call 911 and fled the scene.
He eventually called 911 and said he fled the scene to receive medical attention, authorities said. He was found by officers at a fire station.

While speaking with authorities, he gave conflicting stories, the sheriff’s office said. Investigators will interview him once he is released from the hospital to determine if he will face charges.
