San Francisco police have arrested a man who allegedly entered a Jewish synagogue during study hours and fired multiple blanks.
Surveillance video shows a man entering the front door, setting his gun and firing several rounds.
The suspect is identified as Dmitri Mishin, 51.

“The action is terrifying. For a stranger to walk in and start shooting in your place of worship, in your place where you should feel safe,” Rabbi Janukov says.
“Here comes a guy, I ask him: ‘Do you speak Russian?’ He said he did.’ I asked him, come join us. I didn’t listen, but some people said, he said, ‘I’m going to show you something,'” said one of the attendees, who did not want to be named.

Matthew Finkelstein says that members of the Schneerson Jewish Center are still processing the events of last Wednesday. “People didn’t even get up from their chairs. This guy was holding a gun. It’s because they were paralyzed with fear,” Finkelstein said.

Police added late Friday that Mishin is also linked to another incident that occurred around 8 p.m. Tuesday, when they say he entered a theater on Balboa Street brandishing a gun. He then fled the scene. Nobody was hurt.

Rabbi Chanukov strongly affirms that it was a hate crime.
“I think it may have been when he said, ‘Say hi to the Mossad for me,'” Chanukov says. “So, in a way, he was hurting the Mossad by scaring the Jews in the United States in this synagogue. I’m not quite sure. Obviously, I think the person is deranged, mentally ill.”
