A Fort Worth police officer escaped with minor injuries this week after his patrol car was struck by an 18-wheeler trailer with blades on an icy road, then struck twice more after it got out, police said. .

The officer and his partner were responding to a crash on Interstate 20 when their vehicle was struck Thursday, according to FOX 4 in Dallas.

Only one officer was inside at the time of the first crash, police said.

The officer who was in the vehicle at the time of the accident was able to get out and was walking toward his partner when the second 18-wheeler struck the patrol car.

“As the two officers worked together to cross the icy highway into a grassy median, a third 18-wheeler skidded on the ice and struck the patrol vehicle,” the department said in a statement on social media.

The second officer injured his ankle while the two were fighting on foot on the ice.

Photos of the accident released by police showed the vehicle completely wrecked.

“Although both officers sustained injuries, they immediately returned to the road and began checking on the individuals involved in the multiple crashes,” the department said. “STAY SAFE OUTSIDE.”

The officers were hospitalized with minor head and ankle injuries and were released the same day, FOX 4 reported.

No one else was injured, police told Fox News Digital.
