The US Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton announced late Friday that its front gate was temporarily closed after a driver tried to ram his vehicle into security barriers.
A car crashed into the security barriers around 6:30 pm local time, causing the main gate to be closed.
The vehicle reportedly caught fire after crashing into the barriers.

The Camp Pendleton US Marine Corps base said its front gate was temporarily closed after a driver tried to ram his vehicle into security barriers.
“We can confirm that at approximately 6:30 pm there was an attempt to gain unauthorized access to the facility,” Camp Pendleton wrote in a tweet.
“The MCB Camp Pendleton Provost Marshall Office has deployed the final denial barriers and disabled the vehicle. We will provide more information as it becomes available,” the post continued.

The vehicle had reportedly caught fire after crashing into the barriers.

Visitors were advised to seek entrance through the Del Mar Gate.
Camp Pendleton has since announced that the main gate has been reopened. It is not clear why the driver tried to access the military base.
