Soldiers with the Texas Department of Public Safety apprehended 16 illegal immigrants last week after a high-speed chase in Hidalgo County, video shows.
DPS officials posted a video on Twitter Monday that was filmed last Thursday, showing the nighttime chase.

In the video, a speeding SUV finally slows down, runs off the road and into a field. As the vehicle came to a stop, night vision cameras operated from a DPS aircraft showed numerous illegal immigrants exiting the vehicle and dispersing.

At one point, two police officers approach a bush and two illegal immigrants emerge from the other side, one of whom trips and falls before getting up and running again.
Ultimately, 16 illegal immigrants were apprehended with the help of Texas DPS planes. All 16 individuals were referred to the US Border Patrol.
The driver of the vehicle could not be identified, but according to DPS officials, one of the 16 people arrested is suspected to be the driver.

Border crossings have increased dramatically in recent years with 310,531 border encounters occurring in 2017 compared to 2,214,652 in 2022. As of Sunday, there have been 639,032 border encounters.
Republicans have risen up in arms over the increase in border crossings, with many calling for the removal of US Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas.
